Online House Viewings
The government’s stay-at-home measures mean people can’t view properties like before. However, letting agents are finding innovative ways to market homes in the meantime. Letting agents are increasingly offering video tours and online house viewings to renters during the coronavirus lockdown. With the property market on hold and in-person house viewings suspended, many agents are offering online viewings instead. But would you rent a home you’ve never seen in person? Here, we explain how online viewings work and advise the key things you should consider before viewing a property virtually.
Tips for online Viewings
Many renters are asking themselves the question – should I rent from just an online viewing? Well, here we’ve put together some tips to help you get the best out of your virtual viewing. Make sure you take note the different aspects of the property such as:
- The age of the kitchen and bathroom
- Visible cracks in the walls or ceiling, and signs of damp
- Condition of the windows and whether they are single or double-glazed.
- If the property has been recently painted this could be covering up underlying issues
- Check the view from the windows
- Whether there is storage space, especially in the kitchen and bedrooms
Follow up with a live video viewing
If you’ve had a video tour and you would still like to know more, then ask for a livestream tour. Most letting agents will arrange this once the house is empty. This will give you an opportunity to see the property in more detail. Also, make sure you do your homework on the surrounding areas. Use tools such as Google Street view and Google maps to see what is around the property. And, if you live near to the property you can always do a drive by to get a feel for the property and area.
