Student vaccines – get rich quick scheme?
The UK government have been pushing student vaccines as a priority as the return to studying is looming in September. But could this latest enticement be enough to push students over the line and get fully vaccinated?
Student to Win £5000!
Students at the University of Sussex have the chance to win a whole lot of cash. All they have to do is enter into a draw with the chance to win £5,000. The rules state that they must prove they have had two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. However, the university isn’t making vaccinations mandatory but rather looking to improve vaccination levels within the campus. While this is a large sum of money, it doesn’t outweigh the serious issues they could face with unvaccinated students.
Where to get student vaccines
The government has recently opened up vaccinations to all 16- and 17-year-olds. As a result, more pop-up centres are being held across the country to enable students to get vaccinated. These temporary vaccination centres don’t require an appointment so you can just walk straight in.
Is the vaccine safe?
All three vaccines have been thoroughly tested by the FDA and found to be safe and effective in preventing severe Covid. However, they continue to undergo continuous and intense safety monitoring. In the past, vaccines have been developed through a series of steps that can take many years. Now, given the urgent need for Covid vaccines, financial investments and scientific collaborations are changing how vaccines are developed. This means that some of the steps in the research and development process have been happening in parallel. Although still maintaining strict clinical and safety standards. For example, some clinical trials are evaluating multiple vaccines at the same time.
