Risk Assessment for Covid19
The risk assessment for Covid19 is in place for employers to help with the phased return to work for their employees. Here, we look at what is required from both employers and employees to make this transition as safe as possible.
Letting agencies risk assessments
The government has confirmed that letting agencies can reopen, but they must follow strict guidelines. In these guidelines, employers will need to carry out a full Covid19 risk assessment before employees can return to work. This means that employers need to do everything possible to reduce the risk of infection between staff. The government have said that it is important for businesses to operate, as long as it is safe to do so. However, businesses must work safely and control the risks associated with running a business at this time.
Carrying out a risk assessment
Every employer has a legal responsibility to protect their employees and others from risks to their health and safety. And, each assessment should make allowances for those who are considered clinically vulnerable. Employers can address the risks of Covid19 using the government’s guidance on working safely during coronavirus. More information on this can be found here.
Managing risk in the workplace
In every workplace, employers have a duty to manage the risk in the workplace. This means taking as many preventative measures as possible. These steps are here to help employers adhere to the guidelines:
- Make every reasonable effort to enable working from home as a first option. If this is not possible, you should make every reasonable effort to comply with the social distancing guidelines set out by the government and keep people 2m apart wherever possible.
- Where the social distancing guidelines cannot be followed, businesses should re consider changing the activity. This will reduce the risk of transmission.
- If people must work face-to-face for a sustained period with more than a small group of fixed partners, you will need to assess whether the activity can safely go ahead.
