Tips for spending Christmas at university campus
When it comes to celebrating Christmas not everyone gets to travel home and spend it with loved ones. So, if you’re a student spending Christmas on campus this year then we have some tips for you…
Make plans with other students
Make plans to see other friends you know are on campus, the chances are they will welcome the company. There are many reasons students stay on campus for Christmas and creating new memories over the festive period can be fun. Maybe organise a cooking evening where you make all your favourite traditional treats! You could book into a local restaurant or even organise some activities such as bowling or the cinema. And if all else fails, go exploring where you live, there are bound to be festive activities on it’s just a case of searching for them!
Do some festive volunteering
Christmas isn’t always a happy time for everyone, and some people are left lonely and hungry. This could be the perfect opportunity to give back to your local community and do some volunteering. The Samaritans are always looking for volunteers to man the phones during a particularly sombre time of year. Also try to look for volunteering opportunities through your Students’ Union as there will often be charities calling for help there.
Decorate!
Just because you’re not at home doesn’t mean you can’t feel Christmassy! Make your room or house feel festive by decorating a tree and putting up some festive decorations. Around your home, you could add a wreath, hang snowflakes from the windows or add seasonal plants such as Mistletoe. You can even put out some stockings out to really make it feel like Christmas.
